DIABETES MELLITUS NUTRITION (TYPE II)

 

 

Food is one of the fundamental bases of this pathology. Diabetics must be educated to adopt healthy habits to prevent blood glucose extremes, which result in hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.

Determining the amount of carbohydrates (bread, rice, pasta, crackers, etc.) that the diabetic can consume is essential to control blood glucose levels.

Having diabetes does not mean giving up all the foods you currently eat. But, a balanced diet in diabetics is essential in controlling blood glucose, maintaining a desired weight and improving well-being.

Being overweight is a risk factor in Diabetes Mellitus (Type II) as it increases insulin resistance, making it more difficult to control blood glucose.

To control diabetes, a diet rich in vitamin C, zinc and other micronutrients is important because it is an antioxidant.
